Cariño

Cariño begins to take shape during the summer of 2017 due to María feeling certain frustration when writing poetry as she was unable to say “I Love You” or “I want to marry you” without it coming out as just a simple poem.
She’d always envied the simple and straightforward pop language until one day she told herself “why not?”. So she took a keyboard and started to write lyrics and melodies. Shortly after, she contacted Paola, her friend and neighbor from across the street who had a real musical instinct and was able to compose the bases that María lacked. They were first linked through Tinder. The App introduced them four years earlier and they ran into each other again in 2017, and although love didn’t triumph, affection did.

Now they just lacked a bass. For months they persuaded Alicia (from the band “El Buen Hijo”) whom they had met at parties they’d attended. One night, they “assaulted” her on the La Palma Street after a El Buen Hijo-concert. Headphones in hand they made her listen to a sleazy and super sad song that they had composed that same afternoon. She ended up singing that song and joining Cariño in february, 2018.
Our three girls are also lucky to count on Martín Spangle, a good friend who has a studio at home and helps them produce and postproduce their songs.

LA CASA AZUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA, MUJERES, PERRO, JUNIPER MOON, PAPA TOPO, JOE CREPÚSCULO, LA PLATA, AUTOESCUELA, SIERRA, PEACHES, NANCY SINATRA, TRONCO… are some of their confessed obsessions, and if you mix them up with a touch of affection (cariño) you end up with a bubbling and explosive punk-pop with taffy melodies, a hint of surf and highly addictive lyrics.

Cariño is now working on new songs, recording and sweetening the first spring sunbeams. Their first CD will be released after the summer, a limited and numbered Mini-LP 10” edition on a colored vinyl with eight songs in our collection “New Adventures in Pop”!!!
